In an attempt to boost IT culture in the State, the Rajasthan Government is
preparing a new IT policy. A high level committee under the chairmanship of
Chief Secretary RK Nayar was constituted recently for the purpose. Of late IT
majors have sent proposals to the Government, which they say, would help in
attracting investments to the State and would generate employment besides
promoting e-governance. According to official sources, a team from Infosys
recently met Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and submitted a proposal to set up an IT city near the State capital. They require around about a 1000 acres to build the proposed city.
Another IT major, TCS, has sent proposals to introduce e-governance in a phased manner in various departments of the Government to improve efficiency. Sources say NIIT too has sent a proposal to introduce computer education at the school level to increase computer literacy in the State. Since there is no existing IT policy, Ms Raje has directed officials to prepare a policy at
the earliest so that these proposals from IT majors could be given serious consideration.
